Tellicherry goats are one among the milch breeds of goats of Kerala and also reared in different parts of Tamil Nadu. They are medium sized animals and the home tract of this breed is a Calicut, Cunnannore and Malapuram district of Kerala. The coat colour of Tellicherry goats varies widely from completely white to completely black. The ears are medium sized, directed outward and downward. The average lactation milk yield is 43.78 kg for an average lactation length of 143.5 days. They are prolific breed of goats and the average single and multiple birth percentages pooled over parities were 50.5 and 49.5 % respectively (Acharya, 1982). Birth weight is the first observed trait in life of an animal on which growth, production and reproduction traits are dependent.
