The study was undertaken to assess the anemia of azotemic dogs and evaluate the therapeutic management. 20 dogs were comprehensively reviewed in this study. The age of the dogs ranged from 3 to 10 years and the highest affected age groups were 4.75 to 6.5 years and 6.5 to 8.25 years (30% dogs each). Nondescript dogs (45%) were the most affected. The range of body weight of the dogs was 11.2 to 61.8 kg. Male dogs (75%) were more affected than female dogs (25%) in the study. The clinical examination of the anemic dogs revealed 100% dogs had pallor, 80% had vomition, 90% had dehydration, 60% had melena, 55% had halitosis, 100% had anorexia/inappetence and 55% had polyuria/polydipsia. The post-treatment hematobiochemical parameters revealed increased Hb (61.75%), TEC (60.21%), PCV (55.64%), Platelets (43.17%), Ionic Calcium (17.11%), Reticulocytes (14.75%), Absolute Reticulocyte Count (91.39%), Corrected Reticulocyte Count (54.17%), RPI (110%), Serum Iron (15.67%), Iron Saturation (22.76%) and decreased BUN (49.22%), Creatinine (46.72%), Phosphorous (27.09%), TIBC (5.33%), Lactate (28%) and Systolic Blood Pressure (8.3%) compared to pre-treatment values and significant difference was noted between them. Nonsignificant observations were recorded in erythrocyte indices, serum electrolytes, liver function test parameters and leucogram on Day 14 compared to Day 0. Reticulocyte count and Serum Iron showed a low positive correlation. Serum Creatinine showed a high positive correlation with Phosphorous and a moderate negative correlation with Ionic Calcium. Normocytic, Normochromic and Non-regenerative anemia was the predominant finding amongst the azotemic dogs. Low iron stores were recorded in 50% of the dogs included in the study. Post therapeutic management, the azotemic dogs with anemia showed considerable improvement in clinical signs and hematobiochemical values.EnglishAssessment of Anemia in Azotemic Dogs and it's Therapeutic ManagementThesis
