It is rich in carbohydrate and the predominant dietary energy source for Asia, North and South America and Africa. Rice production is mostly reduced due to different biotic and abiotic stresses. Bacterial leaf blight caused by Xanthomonas oryzae pv. oryzae bacteria, is one of the major biotic destructive diseases throughout the world. The preferred strategy for disease management is through varietal disease resistance because it is not fully controlled by any chemical treatments. Gene pyramiding is the most effective strategy; in which, pyramided lines with three to four different bacterial leaf blight resistance imparting genes could be utilized to integrate desired genes into the genetic background of popular rice cultivars (like Gujarat’s popular variety GR11) by using marker assisted selection (MAS).en-USnullMOLECULAR STUDIES OF MAPPING POPULATION FOR BACTERIAL LEAF BLIGHT (BLB) RESISTANCE GENES IN RICE (Oryza sativa L.)Thesis
