An experiment entitled “Studies on growth and vigour of mango rootstocks and their response to grafting” was conducted at College of Horticulture, Bidar, UHS, Bagalkot during 2019. Twelve rootstock varieties were evaluated in Randomized Complete Block Design with three replications for germination, growth and vigour. The evaluation of different mango rootstock and scion varieties on graft success was carried out in Factorial Randomized Complete Block Design (FRCBD) with two replications. The maximum stone weight (32.95 g) and stone breadth (4.60 cm) was recorded in the rootstock Kitchner, while the stone length was maximum with rootstock, Olour (9.79 cm). However, germination percentage, extent of polyembryony and days taken for 50 per cent germination was recorded with Nekkare (92.50%), Kurukkan (2.90) and Starch (43.50 days) respectively. The maximum seedling height, leaf area and vigour index-I and II was registered with Nekkare (28.27 cm, 44.25 cm2 , 2270.56 cm and 646.56 g respectively). Among the different grafted rootstocks, Nekkare registered the minimum days for sprouting, maximum sprout length, graft success, height of grafted plant and number of leaves per graft (12.47 days, 6.08 cm, 89.17%, 29.24 cm and 18.33/graft respectively) whereas, the maximum scion girth and root-collar diameter was registered with Bappakai (5.67 mm and 6.57 mm respectively). In scion varieties, Kesar recorded the minimum days for emergence of sprouts (15.92 days), maximum sprout length (5.39 cm), graft success (85.83 %), height of grafted plant (26.74 cm), scion girth (5.55 mm) and root-collar diameter (6.51 mm). Among the different rootstock scion combinations, Nekkare grafted with Kesar recorded the minimum number of days for sprouting (11.4 days), maximum sprout length (7.15 cm), graft success (95%), height of grafted plant (33.55 cm) and number of leaves per graft (19.7) whereas, scion girth and root-collar diameter was found non-significant.EnglishSTUDIES ON GROWTH AND VIGOUR OF MANGO ROOTSTOCKS AND THEIR RESPONSE TO GRAFTINGThesis
