Therefore, people’s participation is now crucial for success of any agricultural development programme. ATMA has an inbuilt mechanism for participation of various stakeholders at different levels of planning and implementation. This study was conducted in Patna and Muzaffarpur districts of Bihar to find out the extent of participation of various stakeholders in formulation and implementation of Strategic Research and Extension Plan of ATMA. The data were collected from 32 respondents consisting of members of ATMA Governing Board and Management committee at district level and Block Technology Team and Farmers Advisory Committee at block level including scientists of Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs) of concerned districts, Agricultural Research Institute, Patna and Bihar Agricultural Management Education and Training Institute (BAMETI), Patna. Extent of participation of stakeholders was measured at formulation as well as implementation stage of SREP by use of Participation Index. The results revealed that the extent of participation of stakeholders was found to be 52.77 per cent in formulation stage and 47.50 per cent at implementation stage of SREP. The overall participation of stakeholders in formulation and implementation of SREP-ATMA was found to be only 50.13 per cent which implies that there is enough scope for improvement in participation at both formulation and implementation level.Agricultural Technology Management Agency (ATMA), Participation Index, Strategic Research and Extension Plan (SREP), Farmers Interest Groups (FIGs), Bottom up approach, participatory approachEffectiveness of Strategic Research and Extension Plan of Agricultural Technology Management Agency in BiharThesis
