With the scarcity of land in urban areas for a garden, rooftop gardens become more popular. The present study was conducted in Hyderabad city in order to document the types of rooftop gardens practiced and the factors influenced to adopt rooftop gardening and to quantify institutional support availed by the rooftop gardeners. The primary data were collected from 60 rooftop garden practitioners of Hyderabad randomly by personal interview through a pre-tested schedule. Nutritional, ornamental and integrated types of rooftop gardens were identified of which the integrated type was practiced by the majority of the respondents (53.33 %). A majority of the gardens were new (56.67 %) and had less than three years of existence. A major portion of respondents (88 %) were practicing rooftop gardening on own house. Kit A without soil supplied by the Department of Horticulture was more popular (37.5 %) compared to Kit B without soil (20.83 %). Per pot installation and maintenance of nutritional rooftop gardens cost around Rs 220 whereas, ornamental rooftop garden costs Rs 319. As a stressbuster, followed by nutritional security, ambience and hobby were the major factors influencing adoption of rooftop gardens. Product and service-based business consultancies CAGR in terms of customer base were 13.84 and 19.76 per cent, respectively.
