Abstract
The present study was undertaken to study managerial skills of managers
employed in public and private organizations in relation to 2D:4D digit ratio and
investigate and compare the managerial skills of managers of public and private
organizations. The study was conducted on employees of public and private
organizations within the municipal limits of Udaipur city. A sample of 60 managers
i.e. 30 from public organizations and 30 from private organizations were selected
randomly for the present study and for experimental research design a subsample of
50 per cent of the total same i.e. 15 in each from public and private organizations was
selected for calculating 2D:4D digit ratios. Online questionnaire technique was used
for data collection. Digital photograph from the ventral surfaces of hands were
captured for 2D:4D and frequency, percentage, mean weighted score and Karl
Pearson correlation coefficient test was used for analysis of data.
The finding of the study revealed that majority of respondents were male, in
35-45 years age group, had 11- 20 years experience. The public organization
managers were excellent stress managers with percentage score of 73.3 per cent and
while private organization managers had excellent time management skills i.e. 86.6
per cent, very few had average problem solving (3.3%) and time management skills
(3.3%). Public organization manager’s managerial skill ranged from average to
excellent while managers from private organization it was good to excellent. The
over-all mean weighted score of the seven categories managerial skills of public
organization managers were 3(sometimes) for all managerial skills and in private
organization managers it was 4 (often).
Public organization managers were excellent in stress management (73.3%),
time management (60%) and general management (53.3%). Good managers category

was also seen in problem-solving 63.3 per cent, decision making 63.3 per cent,
motivation skills 60 per cent and interpersonal communication 50 per cent. In average
manager’s category only in problem-solving (3.3%) and time management (3.3%)
were calculated. Private organization managers were more in excellent category in
comparison to public organization in all the seven managerial skills under the study
with highest difference of 20 per cent in general management, 14 per cent in time
management and 33 per cent in motivation skills. Managers of private organization
were having better managerial skills than public organization managers.
Public and private organization managerial skills did not correlate with 2D:4D
left hand digit ratio and right hand ratio in both the kinds of organizations. Non
significant results occurred at 5 per cent level of significance. The reason of non
significant correlation may be because of a small subsample size
