Abstract
The present investigation entitled “Effect of crop establishment methods and weed management practices on weeds and rice (Oryza sativa L.) yield under DSR system”was conducted insandy clay loam soil using rice variety‘Rajendra Kasturi’at Agricultural Research Farm, Institute of Agricultural Sciences, Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi, during kharif season of 2016-17 and 2017-18. The experiment was carried-out in split-plot design involving three crop establishment methods (S1 - ZT-DSR+ Sesbania co-culture, S2- ZT-DSR+ residue +Sesbania co-culture and S3 - Conventional till DSR+ Sesbania co-culture)in main plots and five weed management practices (W1 - Pendimethalin (1000 g ha-1) fb bispyribac sodium (25 g ha-1) at 20 DAS, W2 - Pendimethalin (1000 g ha-1) fb pyrazosulfuron (30 g ha-1) at 20 DAS + one hand weeding at 45 DAS,W3 - Pendimethalin (1000 g ha-1) fb chlorimuron+ metsulfuron (4+4 g ha-1) at 20 DAS + one hand weeding at 45 DAS, W4- Weed free and W5 - Weedy check)in sub-plots with three replications. Resultsshowed that among the crop establishment methods ZT-DSR+ residue +Sesbania co-culturewas foundeffective in reducing crop-weed competition and recorded higher growth parameters (plant height, number of leaf per running meter, dry matter accumulation, and leaf area index), yield attributes (effective tillers, ear length, panicle weight, grains ear head-1 and 1000 grains weight), yield (grain, straw and biological), harvest index, nutrients uptake and benefit:cost ratio during both the years. However, Among weed management practices,Pendimethalin (1000 g ha-1) fb chlorimuron+ metsulfuron (4+4 g ha-1) at 20 DAS + one hand weeding at 45 DASfound effective in reducing crop-weed competition and recorded higher growth parameters, yield, harvest index and benefit:cost ratio during both the years of experimentation. It was observed from the results thatthe combinations ZT-DSR+ residue +Sesbania co-culture and Pendimethalin (1000 g ha-1) fb chlorimuron+ metsulfuron (4+4 g ha-1) at 20 DAS + one hand weeding at 45 DASwas found most effective in reducing crop weed competition, enhancing grain and straw yield and had maximum gross and net returns, and benefit: cost ratio.
