Abstract
A field experiment was conducted during Rabi season of 2014-15 to study the “Effect of foliar application of Zinc and Salicylic acid on growth, flowering and yield of African marigold cv. Pusa Narangi Gainda” at the Instructional Farm, Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Jhalawar. The experiment consisted of 20 treatment combinations of five levels of Zinc (Zn0-0 %, Zn1-0.25 %, Zn2-0.50 %, Zn3-0.75 %, Zn4-1.0 %) and four levels of salicylic acid (SA0-0.0 mM/L, SA1-0.25 mM/L, SA2-0.50 mM/L, SA3-1.0 mM/L) laid out in Factorial Randomized Block Design with three replications. The treatment Zn4SA3 (Zinc 1.0 % + Salicylic acid 1.0 mM/L) recorded the maximum plant height (77.41 cm), highest number of leaves per plant (314.10), maximum main stem diameter (1.50 cm), highest number of primary branches per plant (11.27), maximum chlorophyll content ( 3.83 mg/g), maximum diameter of tap root (1.35 cm), maximum number of flowers per plant (62.33), longest duration of flowering (61.85 days), earliest first flower bud appearance (39.78 days), 50 per cent flowering (59.73 days), maximum carotene content (3.07 mg/g), maximum number of flowers per plot (4238.44), maximum flower yield per plant (378.34 g), maximum flower yield per plot (25.73 kg) and maximum flower yield per ha (259.87 q). While, the treatment combination Zn3SA2 (Zinc 0.75 % + Salicylic acid 0.50 mM/L) had the maximum diameter of flower (8.34 cm), maximum fresh weight of flower (6.27 g), maximum dry weight of flower (1.58 g) and minimum was recorded in control.
