Abstract
The Sardarkrushinagar Dantiwada Agricultural University,
Sardarkrushinagar came into existence on May 1, 2004
with its jurisdiction spread over seven districts
viz.,Gandhinagar, Mehsana, Patan, Sabarkantha,
Banaskantha, Kutch and Aravalli of Nor th Gujarat
predominantly encompassing the arid and semi-arid
climate.The mandate of the university is teaching,
research and extension education.It has a network of nine
colleges and ve polytechnics under eight faculties viz.,
Agriculture, Veterinary Science & Animal Husbandry,
Home Science (Community Science), Dairy Technology,
Food Technology, Horticulture, Agricultural Engineering
and Basic Science and Humanities. The University has 26
on - Campus and off- campus research stations
expanded across the seven district of North and North -
West Gujarat.The University has Three KVKs
(Khedbrahma, Tharad and Deesa) for transfer of
technology. The Sardar Smruti Kendra, Agriculture
Technology information Centre and Training and Visit
Scheme are functional at the main campus. All the
activities of the university are spurred by the commitment
for rural prosperity through excellence in education,
research and extension education which are summarized
here as under:
Description
The research in agriculture and its allied elds is one of
the major mandates of Sardarkrushinagar Dantiwada
Agricultural University which is being carried out
effectively by network of different on-campus and offcampus
research stations, extension education
centers and different departments of the colleges.
Ÿ The agricultural scientists of the university are
concentrating their focus on the research of niche
areas and niche crops of North and North-West Agro-
Climatic Zones. The location specic problems are
addressed through systematic and planned research.
Ÿ During the year under report, SDAU released total
seven varieties i.e., Bread wheat variety GW 499,
Durum wheat variety GW 1339, Gujarat Dantiwada
Yellow Maize Hybrid (GDYMH-1), Grain Amaranth 6
(GA6), Kufari Khayati (J/93-86), Gujarat Cumin 5 (GC-
5).
Ÿ Thirty two recommendations for farming community
and 23 recommendations for scientic community
and two recommendations for industries and
entrepreneurs in different discipline of agriculture and
allied sciences were recommended.
Ÿ Evolving new varieties and breeds and developing
technologies for increasing agricultural and animal
productivity with a view to improve socio-economic
status of farmers of Gujarat and India.
Ÿ The location specic problems are addressed through
systematic and planned research on eld crops,
horticultural crops, plantation crops, agroforestry etc.
Ÿ Research on Integrated Farming System model for
rainfed condition , Integrated Organic Farming System
model, Agro forestry models, Integrated dry farming
model, Integrated Pest and Disease Management
Systems, micro irrigation management, Organic
Farming and Biological Control is going on.
Ÿ Efforts are in progress to develop elite herds of Kankrej
cows and Mehsana buffaloes with a desirable level of
production and reproduction, through pure breeding,
selection and progeny testing.
Ÿ During the period under report more than 4136
samples comprising of blood (1331), serum/plasma
for clinical chemistry (295), Urine (10) and tissues
(>2500) under Disease diagnostic services were
received/collected for hematology, urine analysis and
histopathology, respectively.
Ÿ Total 6296 animals were recorded at centralized unit of
registration under Out Door Patient (OPD)/In-Door
patients (Clinical cases). Out of these, 3173 (50.40 %)
animals were categorized to suffer with medical
problems, while 1738 (27.60 %) animals suffered with
surgical problems and were referred to respective
OPD unit.
Ÿ Total 12 Research Projects were carried out as
ongoing research projects under renewable energy
and environmental engineering research. Under RKVY,
“Solar and gobar gas based cold storage using
evaporative cooling” was initiated with view to
ascer tain ideal storage conditions entailing
temperature and humidity for different vegetables and
fruits of North Gujarat,
Ÿ Under home science research, developed and
evaluated cookies made from whole wheat our
enriched with soya our and rice bran and
recommended for baker y industrialist and
entrepreneurs as well as developed value added
nutritious biscuits by incorporation of Macerated Ber
Fruit.
Ÿ During 2019-20, total 2789 qtls breeder seed and
1604 qtl truthful seed(BANAS) of various crops were
produced.
Ÿ More than 231 research papers in International and
National Journal, 33 book chapters; 96 popular
articles were published and 100 abstract papers were
presented in seminar/symposia by the scientists of the
SDAU.
