Abstract
The field investigation entitled "Effect of zinc, ferrous and
elemental sulphur on growth and yield of safflower (Carthamus tinctorius L.)
Var. PBNS-12" was conducted at All India Co-rodinate Research Project
(AICRP) on safflower Marathwada Agricultural University, Parbhani with an
object to fmd out the effect of zinc (Zn), ferrous (Fe) and elemental sulphur (S)
on growth, seed yield and oil content of safflower. The experiment was laid out
in Randomized Block Design (RBD) with eleven treatments. The treatments
were T 1- RDF + ZnS04 @ 10 kg ha-1
, T 2- RDF + ZnS04 @ 20 kg ha-1
, T 3-
RDF + ZnS04@ 30 kg ha-1
, T4- RDF + FeS04@ 10 kg ha-1
, T5- RDF + FeS04
@ 20 kg ha-1
, T6- RDF + FeS04@ 30 kg ha-1
, T7- RDF + elemental sulphur@
1. 7 kg ha-1
, T 8- RDF + elemental sulphur @ 3.4 kg ha-1
, T 9- RDF + elemental
sulphur@ 5.1 kg ha-1
, T10- RDF + FYM, T11-RDF, replication thrice having
gross and net plot size 4.5 x 5 m2 and 2.7 x 3.8 m2, respectively. Variety
PBNS-12 was sown on 16th October, 2009. From the results it can be
concluded that growth factors viz. plant height (em), number of functional
leaves, leaf area ( dm2), dry matter accumulation (g), number of branches, stem
girth (em) and yield contributing factors viz. number of capitula planf1
, weight
of capitula planf1
, weight of seed planf1
, number of seed planf1
, test weight
(1000 seeds) were found significantly superior under treatment ZnS04@ 30 kg
ha-1 (T3) and were at par with FeSo4@ 30 kg ha-1 (T6), ZnSo4@ 20 kg ha-1 (T2)
and FeSo4 @ 20 kg ha-1 (T 5).
