Abstract
Impact of Farmscaping on the Bioecology of Gram Pod Borer
Gaurang Chhangani Dr. Anil Vyas The investigation on, “Impact of farmscaping on the bioecology of gram pod
borer” was conducted on Instructional Farm and Department of Entomology,
Rajasthan College of Agriculture, Udaipur during rabi 2018. Gram variety GNG-1581
was sown with different farmscaped treatments to study the seasonal incidence of
gram pod borer and to compare the impact of bordered plants viz., mustard, marigold
and sunflower along with bio-pesticide protectants on the abundance of associated
larval parasitoid C. chlorideae on gram pod borer. The maximum pod borer
population (2.9 larvae per meter row) was recorded during 3rd and 4th week of
December (50th and 51st SMW); whereas, minimum pod borer (0.71 larvae per meter
row) was recorded during last week of November (48th SMW). Farmscaping with bio
pesticide application (one spray of NSKE and one spray of Ha NPV) had lower mean
larval population as compared to farmscaping without bio pesticide application. Mean
atmospheric temperature showed negative non significant correlation (r = -0.28) with
larval population in all the farmscape treatments. The mean relative humidity showed
a significant positive correlation (r= 0.59); whereas, sunshine exhibited a significant
negative correlation (r= -0.62) with larval population.
It can be observed that gram bordered with marigold 40 DAS recorded
significantly the maximum parasitisation (75.00 %) as compared to that in gram
without farmscape treatment (25.00 %). Similarly, 60 DAS the maximum
parasitisation (66.66 %) was recorded in gram bordered with marigold and minimum
(40.00 %) parasitisation in gram without farmscape treatment. The marketable yield
of gram among different farmscaped treatment ranged from 1.26 to 1.89 kg/plot. The
maximum marketable yield of 1.89 kg/ plot was recorded in gram bordered with
marigold with bio pesticide application followed by gram bordered with marigold
without bio pesticide application treatment.
