Abstract
Experiment results showed that the incorporation of the different stockosor concentrations and mulching regimes had a positive effect on growth parameters. Highest increase in plant height 98.85%) and canopy spread (12.84%) was recorded by S1M1 i.e., 50g stockosorb + Black polythene mulch. The treatment combinations also had a significant influence yield parameters where S1M1 recorded the highest number of fruit per plant (68.16), fruits per branch (8.83), fruit weight (117.36g) and fruit yield per plant (7.99kg). S1M1 also recorded significantly higher soil moisture content (27l.93%). With respect to fruit quality, S1M1 recorded the highest fruit juice content (48.81ml), TSS (7.37 0Brix), total sugar (1.98%) and ascorbic acid content (54.59mg/100g). On the other hand, titrable acidity was reduced by the treatments where lowest was recorded in S2M1 (3.49%) and highest in control. Rind thickness, peel weight were also reduced, through non-significantly, by the treatment in which highest was recorded in S0M0 (control). Shelf life was also statistically not influenced, although, the longevity of shelf life of the fruits was decreased under the influence of the treatments. Thus, the use of stockosorb in combination with mulches can improve the growth, yield and biochemical properties of Assam lemon. From this investigation, we conclude that although some of the treatment combinations showed significant results, S1M1 (50g stockosorb + black polythene mulch) is considered as the ideal treatment combination.
Description
The effect of stockosorb and mulching on the growth, yield and quality of Assam lemon were investigated in this study. This experiment was carried out at the Fruit Research Farm, Department of Fruit Science, College of Horticulture and Forestry, Pasighat, Arunachal Pradesh in the year 2014-15. The experiment was carried out in factorial Randomized Block Design with 12 treatments which were replicated 3 times. The treatments include, S0M0 = 0g stocksorb + No mulch, S0M1 = 0g Stocksorb + Black polythene mulch, S0M2 = 0g Stockosorb + Sawdust mulch, S0M3 = 0g Stockosorb + Rick Husk mulch, S1M0 =50g Stockosorb + No mulch, S1M1 =50g Stockosorb + Black polythene mulch, S1M2 = 50g Stockosorb + sawdust mulch, S1M3 = 50g stockosorb + Rice husk mulch, S2M0 = 100g Stockosorb + No mulch, S2M1 = 100g Stockosorb + Black polythene mulch, S2M2 = 100g Stockosorb + rice husk mulch.
