Abstract
The present study was conducted in the University of Agricultural Sciences, Dharwad during 2016-2017 to study the knowledge and opinion of farmers towards Nachalur Farmers Producer Company Limited (NFPCL) at Kulithalai taluk of Karur district of Tamil Nadu. NFPCL is the first producer company in Tamil Nadu. Members are primary producers of paddy. One hundred and five members and forty five non-members of NFPCL formed sample for the study. The data was collected by personal interview method with the help of structured interview schedule which was developed keeping the objectives of the study. The results indicated that relatively large proportion (43.81 %) of members belonged to high knowledge category while, 30.48 per cent of members were in the low knowledge category followed by 25.71 per cent in medium knowledge category. Equal per cent of non-members belonged to the medium and high knowledge categories (35.56 %) followed by low knowledge (28.89 %) category. Majority of members and non-members had favorable opinion regarding NFPCL. Maximum members and non-members opined their disconcern about marketing avenues provided by NFPCL. Timely supply of inputs and creation of good infrastructure base were perceived as major strengths of NPFCL by its members. Lack of rotation of group leadership is considered as major weakness. Inducement of social responsibility and establishment of institutional linkages were considered as opportunities provided by NFPCL. Competition from private dealers was the major challenge that need to be tackled by NFPCL for its effective functioning. Very high majority of members (96.19 %) indicated that too much paper work and book keeping as the major constraint in availing benefits from NFPCL followed by lack of credit facilities (92.38 %).
