dc.description.abstractA field study entitled “Integrated Nutrient Management in Maize (Zea mays L.)” was conducted during Kharif 2012 in the Long Term Fertilizer Experiments initiated in Kharif, 1997 at the Instructional Farm of the Rajasthan College of Agriculture, Udaipur. The soil of the experimental site was sandy clay loam in texture slightly alkaline in reaction, medium in available nitrogen and phosphorus, while high in potassium, sulphur and zinc. The experiment consisted of 12 treatments comprising of chemical fertilizers, organic manure, Azotobacter biofertilizer and their combinations, viz., 100 % NPK, 100 % NPK + Zn, 100 % NPK + Zn +S, 100 % NPK + S, 100 % NPK + Azotobacter, FYM 10 t ha-1 + 100 % NPK (- NPK of FYM), 100 % NPK + FYM 10 t ha-1, FYM 20 t ha-1, 150 % NPK, 100 % NP, 100 % N and control. These treatments were evaluated under randomized block design (RBD) with four replications. Maize (PEHM-2) was taken as test crops. The results of the present investigation reflects that the growth of maize crop in terms of plant at harvest, LAI at 45 and 60 DAS were maximum by applying 100 % NPK + FYM 10 t ha-1 while chlorophyll content at 45 and 60 DAS were under the influence of 150 % NPK. The study also revealed an increase in dry matter accumulation 180.16, 149.84 and 54.85 percent at 30, 45 and 60 DAS, respectively, over control. The crop attained highest CGR (21.74 and 25.42 g m-2 day-1, respectively) between 30-45 and 45-60 DAS and RGR (0.067 and 0.037g g-1 day-1) respectively, between 30-45 and 45-60 DAS when fertilized with 100 % NPK + FYM 10 t ha-1 which was significantly superior over rest of the treatments. The maize plants exhibited maximum values of yield components viz. grain weight cob-1, 1000- grain weight and shelling percentage by applying 100 % NPK + FYM 10 t ha-1. Highest maize grain, stover and biological yield (4.03, 6.04 and 10.07 t ha-1) were obtained by applying 100 % NPK + FYM 10 t ha-1 followed by 150% NPK. Similarly maximum N, P, K, Fe, Cu, Mn content and uptake was recorded by use of 100 % NPK + FYM 10 t ha-1. However, highest S content in maize grain and stover and uptake in stover and total uptake was recorded with 100 % NPK + S + Zn but maximum S uptake in grain was obtained by use of 100 % NPK + FYM 10 t ha-1. The maximum Zn content was obtained by application of 100 % NPK + Zn and uptake by application of use of 100 % NPK + FYM 10 t ha-1. Integrated use of chemical fertilizers and manure increased available N, P, K, S, Zn, Fe, Cu, Mn, Ca and Mg content of the soil The study revealed that soil enrichment with 100 % NPK + FYM 10 t ha-1 resulted in highest net returns of ` 32968 ha-1and maximum B/C ratio (1.54).en_US
