Abstract
ABSTRACT whitefly-transmitted begomoviruses. They cause losses to a number of important pulse crops, a major source of dietary protein in the region. YMD of soybean was first observed in North India as early as 1970’s and since then it had spread over at alarming proportions.Begomoviruses cause devastating diseases of crops in the tropical and subtropical regions of the world. The viruses have host ranges limited to plants of the family Fabaceae and efforts to limit losses are hampered by limited availability of conventional resistance sources and/or the lack of durability of the resistance that has been identified. Roving survey during 2012-2013 revealed incidence of yellow mosaic virus on different plants including weeds, legumes, perennial trees and shrubs. Symptoms caused by YMV are largely dependent on host species and susceptibility. Initially symptoms appear as small yellow specks along the veins and then spread over the leaf. In severe infections the entire leaf becamechlorotic. In blackgram the chlorotic areas sometimes turned necrotic. Infections on french bean usually did not produce mosaic but induced a downward leaf curling. Whiteflies, mites, thrips and jassids were common insects found associated in almostall the fields surveyed. The common hosts viz., soybean, urd bean, french bean, dolichos bean and weed hosts Partheniumhysterophorus,Ageratum conyzoidesinfected by YMV produced characteristic symptoms ofmosaic were found positive in PCR detection using degenerative primers.
