Abstract
A field experiment on “Studies on yield, quality and biofortification of soybean with zinc sulphate and ferrous sulphate application in a Vertisol” was conducted in farmer’s field at Yattinagudda village of Dharwad district during kharif 2015 .The experiment was laid out in randomized complete block design with three replications and nine treatments including application of zinc sulphate @ 12.5 and 25 kg ha-1 and ferrous sulphate application @ 10 and 20 kg ha-1 alone and in combinations. The results revealed that soil application of zinc sulphate @ 25 kg ha-1 + ferrous sulphate @ 20 kg ha-1 at 35 days after sowing (DAS) was found superior in enhancing the grain yield (23.17 q ha-1) and haulm yield (34.29 q ha-1) of soybean. However, these yield levels were comparable with those obtained with soil application of zinc sulphate @ 12.5 kg ha-1 + ferrous sulphate @ 20 kg ha-1 at 35 DAS. Similarly, highest uptake of major nutrients (N, P K and S) and micronutrients (Zn, Fe, Cu and Mn) by the crop were recorded due to the soil application of zinc sulphate @ 25 kg ha-1 + ferrous sulphate @ 20 kg ha-1 at 35 DAS. The higher available soil S, Fe and Zn were also recorded with soil application of zinc sulphate @ 25 kg ha-1 + ferrous sulphate @ 20 kg ha-1 at 35 DAS. Soil application of zinc sulphate @ 25 mg kg -1 + ferrous sulphate @ 20 kg ha-1 at 35 DAS also improved the zinc content (56.66 mg kg -1), iron content (94.10 mg kg -1), crude protein content (40.00 %) and oil content (19.86 %) of soybean seeds.
