A study was made to find out the biology and management of potato tuber moth to minimize the storage rot of potato and to get maximum market price from the stored potato. The most preferred food for larvae of phthorimeea operculella (zell.) was potato tuber on which monta 106 per cent larvae survived and lead a normal 1ife stages for its development, The emergence of moth in the laboratory, storage and field did not take place at the same time, Variations were also recorded. The egg matured in 2.7 to 5,0 days and about 80 per cent hatched within 2.7 to 4.5 days. The young larvae mat ured in 12,5 to 28 days. Pupal stage remained for 6.5 to 8,5 days, The adult remain alive for 2 to 3 days, The total life cycle was completed in 25.5 to 42 days, More time for 1ife span was indicated during cold months while it was reduced in summer months. For protection of potato tuber in the country storage, Lantana leaves and Neem leaves were effective than other plant materials, Treatments of tuber with vegetable oils (Mustard, Neem and Karanj oil) proved to be ineffective. However malathion 5 per cent dust were effective to some extent (5% only). The treated tubers when planted in the field, the potato tuber treated with malathion 5 per cent dust, proved to most effective and gave better germination eo per cent which was followed by Neem leaves 70 per cent, Karanj oil 60 per cent and Lantana leaves 50 per cent.
