Abstract
The present study on “Knowledge and Skills of Agriculture Technology School Students” was conducted in Akola and Amravati districts of Maharashtra state. The exploratory research design of social research was used. In all, 120 respondents were selected by random sampling method. The data were collected from students respondents by personal visit. The questionnaire was handed over personally to the respondents at the respective schools with detail instruction of how to fill the questionnaire. The data collected were recorded, categorized into quantitative classes and tabulation for working out relationship of independent variable with dependent variable. The findings of the present study revealed that, majority of the respondents (57.50%) belonged to male category, over one third of the respondents (40.83%) were other backward class category, majority of the respondents (65.84%) were belonged to the medium family education category, one third of the respondents (40.00%) were having their parents main occupation as agriculture, majority of the respondents (30.00%) belonged to semi-medium family land holding (2.01 to 4.00 ha), near about half of the students (48.33%) were belonged to medium family income group, majority of the respondents (45.00%) were having medium level of participation in extra-curricular activities, more than half of the respondents (67.50%) had rural family background, whereas, majority of the students (39.17%) had secured first class in academic performance. In case of knowledge, majority of the students (65.83%) were medium in subject knowledge, whereas, majority of the students (56.67%) had medium level of skills. The results of correlation revealed that, the characteristics of the respondent’s viz., family education, parental occupation, family land holding, family income, participation in extra-curricular activities, family background, academic performance had positive and significant relationship with their knowledge of different subjects of ATS and skills. In case of gender and caste of the students, it was found to be negatively non-significant with their knowledge of different subjects of ATS and skills. Important constraints faced by the majority of the students in receiving knowledge and skills were, non availability of Internet facilities (83.33%), followed by non availability of audio visual aids facilities (78.33%), non availability of nursery tools (75.00%), Lack of well equipped Laboratory (62.50%), Regular educational tour are not organized (50.83%), Library facility is not well equipped with furniture (50.00%), Lack of knowledge in use of different machineries (40.83%), non availability of books in sufficient quantity (37.50%), non guidance regarding starting of agribusiness (26.66%), sports facilities are insufficient (18.33%), Irregular classes (13.33%) and these were ranked as Ist, IInd, IIIrd, IVth Vth, Vlth, Vllth, Vlllth, lXth, Xth, Xlth, respectively.
Description
The investigation was carried out at Akola and Amravati Districts. For the study of knowledge and skills of agriculture technology school students exploratory research design was used. 120 respondents were purposively selected from three agriculture technology school constituting 40 from each. one school from Amravati and two from Akola districts. The data was collected with the help of questionnaire.
