Abstract
Warehousing is a core part for most of the business organizations. In
agriculture, warehousing is crucial to enhance farm marketing, rural banking
and financing, and safeguarding the country's food security. It enables markets
to relieve pressure during harvest season while also ensuring a continuous
supply of agricultural commodities throughout the off-season. Warehouses are
storage facilities used to store and safeguard goods and agricultural produce
until they are delivered to customers. The warehouse is a material handling
station where the goods are received for storage, order picking, grading, sorting
and shipping of goods for transportation. The commodities can be stored in a
warehouse until the farmer receives a fair price for his output and relishes it,
after that the commodities can be moved from the warehouse to the market.
Warehouses fill the gap between produce, production and consumption,
resulting in time utility. The goods can be stored in warehouses and sold to
consumers as and when required. Storage empowers a firm to carry out
production with expectation of future requirement.
Most of the commodities are cultivated, produced and harvested only in
specific season. Hence requirement of warehouse is essential for storing the
harvested commodities for the consumption of produce in non-season period.
