Abstract
Studies were conducted to investigate the effect of different levels
of fertigation and growth regulators on growth, yield and quality of rose
cultivars under polyhouse condition during 2010-2012 at Precision
farming centre, Department of Horticulture, University of Agricultural
Sciences, GKVK, Bangalore.
The growth, yield and quality parameters like plant height (67.18
cm & 68.28 cm), number of primary branches per plant (4.93 & 5.32),
days taken for emergence of first flower bud (33.07 days & 32.93 days),
number of cut flowers per plant (14.21 & 14.01), shoot girth (0.72 cm &
1.00 cm), diameter of flower bud (3.18 cm & 3.13 cm), length of flower
bud (3.86 cm & 3.51 cm), length of cut flower stalk (59.76 cm & 55.60
cm),vase life (8.14 days) and B:C ratio (1:1.65) were significantly superior
in the treatment F2 (120 % fertigation) in the seasons 1 and 2
respectively.
Among the growth regulators tested for growth, yield and quality, it
was found that G2 (GA3 300 ppm) was significantly superior for the
characters like plant height (69.21 cm & 68.28 cm), number of primary
branches per plant (4.70 & 5.00), days taken for emergence of first flower
bud (32.52 days & 34.17 days), number of cut flowers per plant (13.32 &
12.80), shoot girth (0.71 cm & 0.89 cm), diameter of flower bud (3.08 cm
& 2.98 cm), length of flower bud (3.74 cm & 3.38 cm) and length of cut
flower stalk (59.85 cm & 54.06 cm) in the seasons 1 and 2 respectively.
However, the treatment G4 (Humic acid 0.4 %) influenced the vase life by
reducing the loss of water to the extent (56.44 g) and increasing water
uptake (33.79 g) and thereby prolonged the vase life for a period of (8.12
days) only in the first season of the experiment. Hence, the variety Grand
Gala with 120 per cent fertigation combined with 300 ppm GA3 was the
ideal combination to grow roses under protected cultivation compared to
rest of the treatments.
