Abstract
A field experiment entitled ‘‘Effect of growth regulators and micronutrients on growth, production and quality of Strawberry (Fragaria x ananassa Duch.) cv. Winter Dawn’’ was conducted at the Department of Fruit Science and the Protected Cultivation Unit, College of Horticulture and Forestry, Jhalawar during 2014-2015. The experiment consisted of seventeen treatments comprising different growth regulators and micronutrients viz. Control (T0), NAA 5ppm (T1), NAA 10ppm (T2), NAA 15ppm (T3), GA3 25ppm (T4), GA3 50ppm (T5), GA3 75ppm (T6), BA 5ppm (T7), BA 10ppm (T8), BA 15ppm (T9), Morphactin 25ppm (T10), Morphactin 50ppm (T11), Morphactin 75ppm (T12), Boric acid 0.2% (T13), Boric acid 0.4% (T14), Zinc sulphate 0.2% (T15) and Zinc sulphate 0.4% (T16). The experiment was laid out in Randomized Block Design with three replications. As regard to growth parameters, treatment T6- GA3 75ppm had the maximum plant height (40.58cm), number of leaves per plant (57.09), total chlorophyll content (2.05mg g-1), fresh weight (119.43g) as well as dry weight (49.28g) of plant and also plant E-W spread and N-S spread (54.05cm and 48.33cm, respectively). In production parameters, treatment T6- GA375ppm produced maximum fruit length (4.91cm), length: diameter ratio (1.92), flowers per plant (58.60), fruits per plant (44.92) and fruit yield per plant(503.48). Minimum days to first flower initiation (23.50 days), first fruit set (29.34 days), first harvest (53.15), maximum harvest period (96.00 days) and number of pickings (34.17) were recorded from treatment T6- GA3 75ppm. Maximum fruit diameter (1.49cm) was observed in treatment T14- Boric acid 0.4%. Maximum fresh weight (28.09) as well as dry weight (2.05g) of fruits were noted in treatment T16- Zinc sulphate 0.4%. Better quality parameters viz. maximum TSS (7.38°B), TSS/acid ratio (11.00), minimum titratable acidity (0.67 per cent), total (5.62 per cent) and reducing sugar (3.48 per cent, respectively) and also overall sensory score (8.94) were observed in treatment T14- Boric acid 0.4%. Maximum Vit. C content (57.49mg100g-1) was recorded from treatment T3- NAA 15ppm. Maximum juice content (90.56 per cent) and specific gravity (1.17g/cm3) were observed in treatment T16- Zinc sulphate 0.4%. Maximum anthocyanin content (42.02 mg100g-1) was recorded in the treatment T6- GA3 75ppm. Based on overall performance, treatment T6- GA3 75ppm was found superior over all other tretments with respect to growth and production parameters and treatment T14- Boric acid 0.4% with respect to quality parameters. *
