Abstract
A detailed investigation was undertaken to study the indigenous freshwater
ornamental fishery resource of Tamiraparani river originating from the Western Ghats of
Tamilnadu. The information on the availability and catch details of small indigenous
freshwater ornamental fishes in this riverine system is scanty. Further, study on the
stock of two commercially important ornamental fish species namely,
Etruplus suratensis, Puntius sarana have also not been assessed so far in this riverine
systems.
