Haemato Biochemical Parameters as Prognostic Indicators in Equine Colic

Abstract
Haemato- biochemical parameters were found to be useful prognostic indicators in assessing the severity of colic. Significant increase in PCV, leucocytosis, neutrophilia and lymphocytosis was observed in case of severe colicky horses. Significant increase in the BUN and creati- nine levels in moderate and severe colic cases. Severely colicky horses, the elevation of glucose was found to be double than that of mild and moderate colicky horses. Hypoproteinemia and hypoalbuminemia was observed in all the three groups of colicky horses. LDH was found to be significantly elevated in horses with moderate and severe colic cases.
