Abstract
The effect of paclobutrazol and cycocel on growth and flowering of annual chrysanthemum (Chrysanthemum coronarium L.) Cv. 'Local White' was studied during the year 2004 at Regional Horticultural Research Station, ASPEE College of Horticulture and Forestry, Navsari Agricultural University, Navsari. The treatments comprised of two different concentrations (l00 and 200 mgll) of paclobutrazol and two concentration of cycocel (500 and 1000 mgll) with three methods of application (root dipping, soil drenching and foliar spray). The experiment was laid out in Randomized Block Design (RBD) with 13 treatments including control. The results revealed that an application of paclobutrazol @ 100 mgll as soil drench reduced the plant height (72.5cm), stalk length (4.7 cm) and vase life (7.0 days), while days to first flower initiation being (55.7 days) and 50 per cent ! flowering (71.7 days) were obtain with an application of , paclobutrazol @ 100 mg/l as root dipping method. While plant · 2 · spread (6299.8 cm ), number of branches (43.2) and crop growth • • , rate were obtain maximum in paclobutrazol @ 100 mg/l as soil drenc h. The maximum weight of single flower (3.6 g), number of pi cking (17 .5), number of flower per plant (165.0) and yield per hectare (34 .2 t) were obtained with drenching of paclobutrazol @ 100 mg/I. In general, it can be concluded that application of paclobutrazol @ 100 mg/l as soil drenching was proved to be the best in improving the yield and also economically profitable in annual chrysanthemum.
