Abstract
The study entitled “Effectiveness of social networking application in dissemination of practice for Family Resource Management” was aimed at investigating the effectiveness of WhatsApp package in creating awareness regarding food adulteration. Data were collected through personal interviews from 90 women drawn from rural, peri urban and urban area of Ludhiana district of Punjab state based upon the criteria of age (20-40 years), access to a basic phone or smart phone having internet access, regular users of WhatsApp and willingness to become part of study. It was found that majority of the WhatsApp users were young from general category having high educational status and were married but with low income. Majority belonged to nuclear families with 2-4 members. More than half of the respondents were using prepaid connection while largest percentage of respondents were Facebook users. Majority of respondents were using WhatsApp since more than 40 months for 4-7 hours per day. Percentage of respondents aware regarding adulteration increased after the intervention. There was significant difference in pre and post awareness level showing that developed package was highly effective in creating awareness regarding food adulteration. Development of simple messages for dissemination through use of WhatsApp to create awareness was recommended.
