Abstract
Tobacco is an important cash crop in India. The estimates of variability, correlation coefficient and direct and indirect effects of different characters contributing towards the cured leaf yield in different tobacco genotypes are of great value to breeders in making effective selection for yield and other quality characters. The present investigation was carried out with 40 genotypes of rustica tobacco in randomized complete block design with three replications at Bidi Tobacco Research Station, Anand Agricultural University, Anand during rabi 2012-2013. Genetic variability, correlation coefficient and path analysis were studied for 11 characters viz., cured leaf yield, days to flowering, number of leaves per plant, plant height, leaf length, leaf width, leaf thickness, days to maturity, nicotine content, chloride content and reducing sugar content.
