Abstract
Investigation was carried out to assess the genetic variability, association studies and genetic diversity of 38 Indian mustard genotypes along with two checks during rabi 2019. Analysis of variance revealed that all the characters registered significant differences among the genotypes. The high GCV and PCV estimates were observed for number of siliquae per plant and secondary branches per plant. High heritability estimates in broad sense coupled with low genetic advance as percent of mean was observed for siliqua length and 1000-seed weight. Genotypic and phenotypic correlation coefficient revealed that seed yield per plant had significant positive correlation with plant height at genotypic level. Path coefficient analysis revealed that number of siliquae per plant had the highest positive direct effect followed by number of primary branches per plant, plant height, 1000-seed weight, seeds per siliqua and number of secondary branches per plant. Mahalanobis D2 statistics grouped 38 genotypes into seven different clusters with uneven distribution of the genotypes. 1000-seed weight followed by days to 50% flowering and days to physiological maturity contributed maximum towards total diversity. Inter-cluster distance was found maximum between cluster V and cluster VII. Cluster I followed by cluster III recorded maximum intra-cluster distance. Principal component analysis (PCA) revealed formation of four major components indicating the components containing the observable traits are the major cause for the genetic diversity. The principal component (PC) scores revealed that number of siliquae per plant, days to 50% flowering, plant height and 1000-seed weight contributed maximum to the variation for PC 1, PC 2, PC 3 and PC 4, respectively. Genotypes NPJ-221, Pusa Agrani, PM-30 and RH- 16995 were promising for various agronomic characters.
