dc.description.abstractThe present field experiment was conducted during 2014-15 at Medicinal and Aromatic Plants Block, Saidapur farm, University of Agricultural Sciences, Dharwad during kharif season on weed management studies in tuberose (Polianthes tuberosa L.) cv. Prajwal. The experiment was laid out in Random Complete Block Design (RCBD) with three replications. Eight treatments were formed by using different weedicides as pre and post emergent sprays. The size of the gross plot was 4 x 3 m and net plot size of 3.6 x 2.6 m was obtained after removing one border line. Spacing maintained was 30 x 20 cm. Five plants were selected randomly for taking observations on growth and yield parameters. The flower yield (t/ha) varied significantly (2.91 to 4.18 t/ha) among different treatments. The maximum flower yield (t/ha) was recorded in treatment weed free check, followed by Pendimethalin 30 EC @ 1 kg a.i/ha (3.67 t/ha) and Alachlor 50 EC @ 1.5 kg a.i/ha (3.54 t/ha). At 120 DAP, the higher weed control efficiency (97.23%) was observed in weed free check treatment. Among the herbicides, Pendimathalin 30 EC @ 1 kg a.i/ha and Alachlor 50 EC @ 1.5 kg a.i/ha were the next best which exhibited 84.30 and 83.83 per cent weed control efficiency respectively. Net returns and marginal returns were highest in weed free check treatment throughout the crop period. Among the herbicide treatments, Pendimethalin 30 EC @ 1 kg a.i/ha and Alachlor 50 EC @ 1.5 kg a.i/ha recorded the highest net returns and marginal returns. The higher flower yield as a result of better control of weeds in these treatments resulted in higher net returns and marginal returns.en_US
