Abstract
"An attempt has been made on ""Evaluation of Gerbera [Gerbera
jamesonii, HOOK.) Ciiltivars Under Protected Cultivation"" for the period
from September 2000 to May 2001 in the polyhouse. The experiment was
laid in randomized block design with three replications and eleven
cultivars as treatments.
The gerbera cultivars have shown significant variations for growth,
yield and quality.
^ Cultivars Sangria, Kabana, Marisol and Tamra were superior with
respect to growth parameters like plant height, plant spread, sucker, leaf
area and leaf production. Cultivars Sangria and Kabana recorded hundred
per cent establishment.
Cultivars Sangria and Kabana were early to initiate flowers. The
stalk length was maximum in cultivars Sangria, Kabana Marisol and
Tamra. Stalk girth was also maximum in cultivars Sangria, Kabana and
Marist'.. Cultivar Sangria recorded maximum flower diameter, diameter of
disc and also with respect to length of ray florets. In general high quality
flowers were obtained in cultivars Sangria, Kabana, Marisol and Tamra.
With respect to yield, cultivars Sangria, Kabana, Marisol and Tamra
were superior by producing maximum number of flowers per plant
compared to other cultivars.
Cultivars Sangria, Kabana, Marisol and Tamra have emerged as
promising cultivars with respect to growth, flowering, flower yield and
quality and can be recommended for commercial cultivation."
