Abstract
The present experiment was conducted on four genetic groups of poultry involving Vanaraja (VR) and Gramapriya (GP) breeds maintained at instructional livestock farm of Bihar Veterinary College, Patna -14 on random mating for a large number of generations. The four genetic groups were formed in the following manner given below: 1. VR♂♂ x VR ♀♀ 2. GP♂♂ x GP ♀♀ 3. VR♂♂ x GP ♀♀ 4. GP♂♂ x VR ♀♀ The data were obtained collected on 300 birds of which 120 and 180 were males and females respectively. The number of male and female birds in each genetic group were taken as 30 and 45 respectively. Besides, 6 males and 6 females from each genetic group were taken randomly at 20 weeks of age to study various carcass traits. The traits measured in the present experiment were as follow: A. Body weight traits 1. Zero day body weight (g) 2. 5 – week body weight (g) 3. 10 – week body weight (g) 4. 15 – week body weight (g) 5. 20 – week body weight (g) B. 20 - week carcass traits 1. Dressed weight (g) 2. Eviscerated weight (g) 3. Giblets weight (g) 4. Legs weight (g) 5. Thighs weight (g) 6. Breast weight (g) Besides, dressing %, evisceration %, giblets %, Legs %, thighs % and breast % were also studied on the basis of pre-slaughter starved weight.
