Abstract
The present investigation was conducted during the year 2014-15 under All India Coordinated Research Project on Vegetable Crops, Research cum Instructional Farm, Indira Gandhi Krishi Vishwavidyalaya, Raipur (C.G.).The experiment was comprised of thirty one genotypes of bottle gourd and laid out in Randomized Block Design (RBD) with three replications. Data were analysed to work out the variability, correlation coefficient, path analysis and genetic divergence for the characters viz., days to 50% flowering, number of branches per plant, node number of first female flower appears, node number of first female flower appears, days to fruit set, days to first fruit harvest, number of fruits per plant, fruit length (cm), fruit girth (cm), average fruit weight (g), total a) Title of the Thesis : Genetic variability and divergence analysis in bastar originatted bottle gourd [lagenaria siceraria (mol.) standl.] b) Full Name of the Student : Vaibhav Kant Visen c) Major Subject : Horticulture d) Name and Address of the Major Advisor : Dr. Dhananjay Sharma(scientist), Deptt. of vegetable Science COA (IGKV) Raipur (C.G.) 492012 COA, IGKV, Raipur, C.G. e) Degree to be awarded : M.Sc. (Ag.) Horticulture ix soluble solid(%). 100 seed weight, fruit yield per plot, fruit yield (q/ha), duration of crop (sowing to last harvest). The analysis of variance revealed that mean sum of squares due to genotypes were highly significant for all characters. The ANOVA revealed that almost all sum of square characters were found significant and indicated that the presence of variability in the genotype. The genotype IBG 11 was found higher yield and IBG 8 followed earliest. Correlation coefficient analysis observed that number of fruits per plant and node number of first female flower exhibited the significant positive correlation with yield per plot. The path analysis confined that traits like direct effect of node number of first female flower, days to fruit set, fruit length, fruit girth, fruit weight, number of fruits per plant, total soluble solid and duration of crop had direct effect on fruit yield in bottle gourd. The divergence analysis revealed the presence of appreciable amount of genetic diversity in the tested genotypes. Thirty one genotypes were grouped into five clusters. The genotypes belongs the cluster V viz. IBG 7, IBG 8, IBG 9, IBG 10, IBG 11, IBG 16, IBG 17, IBG 18, IBG 25, IBG 28 may be utilized as parents for hybridization in future breeding programmes. Higher contribution to words divergence was contributed by fruit length (23.87). Inter crossing of genotypes from diversed clusters, showing superior mean performance may help in obtaining higher fruit yield per plant with growth and fruit characters of lead components in bottle gourd for Chhattisgarh plains.
