Abstract
The present investigation entitled “A study on impact of biogas plant among biogas beneficiaries of Mahasamund district of Chhattisgarh” was carried out during 2006-2007 in three randomly selected blocks of Mahasamund district . 10 beneficiaries from eleven villages were randomly selected and data were collected, analysed and interpreted by using appropriate statistical tests and methods. The findings of this study reveals that majority of beneficiaries belonged to middle age group (36 to55 year), educated up to primary school level, belonged to other backward class , small size of family ,low experience in use of biogas plant, possessed small size of land holding (2.6 to 5 acre)belonged to medium annual income, involved in farming + labour as their main occupation and had medium size of herd (4 to 6 animals ). The neighbour/ friend/ farmers/ relative/improved farmers/gram sevak, radio were the important sources of information and majority of the beneficiaries used medium level of information source. The biogas beneficiaries had medium level of knowledge and scientific-orientation. Maximum number of the beneficiaries were used biogas in home operation . The major constraints faced by the biogas owners were delay in release of subsidy, poor repaying capacity of weaker section of society for gas bill, lack of suitable space, lack of fund for maintenance of biogas plant, lack of suitable space for plant in winter and rainy season, accumulation of water in gas pipe line. The major suggestion suggested by the biogas beneficiaries for improvement in use of biogas were. Training should be provide to the technical persons, training should be organized for all users of biogas along with demonstration on cleaning of burners and switches of the stove and recommended practices, technical guidance should be provided to the beneficiaries regarding the proper maintenance of biogas plant, loan and subsidy amount should be increased etc. Correlation analysis between independent and dependent variable also revealed that education, size of family, knowledge, source of information, size of land holding, annual income, occupation, availability of space, herd size, scientific orientation, awareness about biogas and availability of technical information about biogas plant shows positive and significant relationship with impact and remaining variables exhibited non significant relationship with impact of biogas plant .
