Abstract
Twelve genotypes of urdbean were evaluated for resistance against whitefly, Bemisia tabaci (Gennadius). Whitefly adult population was ranged from 6.27 to 50.47 adults/ cage on different genotypes. The genotype UH 1 and T 9 were found least susceptible against whitefly having minimum number of whitefly adults, eggs, nymphs and pupae. Maximum number of eggs, nymphs and pupae were recorded on UH 12-03, UH 12- 04, respectively. Morphological characters viz. leaf size, leaf thickness, glabracity, trichome length have positive correlation with whitefly adults and immature stage. The biochemical characters of only two genotypes (T 9 and UH 1) were calculated hence no correlation with whitefly population was worked out. Though insecticides NSKE 5% alternated with novaluron and NSKE 5% alternated with ethion were found to effective against adult population, but maximum yield was obtained in plot sprayed twice with nimbecidine (5ml/l). However, maximum cost benefit ratio was obtained in plot treated with dimethoate (5ml/kg) followed by seed treatment with dimethoate alternated with one spray of dimethoate and NSKE 5% alternated with spray of ethion.
