Abstract
During the disease outbreak at Namakkal Poultry belt in 1993 Newcastle disease concentration in intestinal contents was higher compared to other organs as assessed by haemagglutination (HA) and haemagglutination inhibition tests. HA titre in three hundred and forty one Intestinal contents ranged from 0 to 1021 and 41.34% samples showed HA titre of 128 and above. NDV in intestinal contents were also demonstrated by electron Microscopy. Predominance of the NDV isolates in the intestines has been highlighted and its importance in epidemiology has been discussed.
