Abstract
Soybean [Glycine max. (L.) Merrill ] is an self pollinated crop with chromosome
number (2n= 2 X =40) belong to family Fabaceae. The present investigation was carried out
with the objectives to access the genetic variability interclass correlation and direct and
indirect effects on seed yield per plant in advance lines of soybean taking an account of
fourteen characters. The experiment was conducted at N.E Borlaug Crop Research Centre,
Govind Ballabh Pant University of Agriculture and Technology, Pantnagar, India kharif
2022. Thirty genotypes including four checks PS 1347, PS 1092, PS 24, PS 26 were grown in
randomized block design (RBD).
The results of analysis of variance revealed highly significant differences among
genotypes for character days to 50 % flowering, days to 90 % maturity, plant height (cm),
number of nodes per plant, primary branches per plant, number of pods per plant, number of
seeds per pod, base node height (cm), base pod height (cm), 100 seed weight (g), seed yield
per plant (g), biological yield per plant (g), harvest index (%), protein content (%).
Correlation analysis stated highly positive and significant correlation of seed yield per plant
(g) with days to 50 % flowering, primary branches per plant, number of pods per plant,
number of seeds per pod, base node height (cm), 100 seed weight, harvest index (%),
biological yield per plant (g)
Selection within the cluster can be executed based on maximum mean value for the
desirable characters. In present analysis, there is maximum gap between cluster V and II.
More focus should be therefore given to cluster V and II in the selection of inbreds for cross
breeding in the soybean hybridization programme.
Analysis for DUS -Analysis of distinctiveness in which each variety was considered
to be candidate variety and compared with the rest of 29 as reference varieties to obtain a
pairwise distinctiveness matrix using COYD analysis. Analysis of uniformity as there was
15 visual characters they do not show any variation over 2 years and 4 measureable
characteristic subject to COYU analysis using DUSNT software. Analysis of stability as 15
visually assessed characteristics exhibited stable performance over years both years there is
no variation in state of expression of these characteristics over years and four measurable
characteristics were subjected to statistical analysis.
