Abstract
The present investigation on “Response of tomato (Lycopersicon esculentum L.) to graded level of zinc and zinc solubilizing microbial cultures” was undertaken at the experimental field, Department of Horticulture, College of Agriculture, V.N.M.K.V Parbhani, during (summer) season 2021. The experiment was laid out in Factorial randomized block design (FRBD) with two factor i.e. factor first was zinc solubilizers and factor second was levels of zinc, it has twelve treatments replicated three times. The tomato variety ‘Shivam’ was used for the study. The experiment was framed with intend to study the effect of zinc solubilizers and levels of zinc on growth, yield and quality of tomato. The periodical observations on growth, yield and quality parameters were recorded and subjected for statistical analysis. Recommended dose of fertilizer (250:250:250 kg NPK /ha) was applied through urea, single super phosphate and muriate of potash. Trichoderma viride and Pseudomonas strita, are used as source zinc solubilizers along with different levels of zinc to find out the growth, yield and quality of tomato. The effect of zinc solubilizers on growth, yield and quality parameters of tomato indicated that the zinc solubilizer B2 (Trichoderma viride) recorded maximum plant height (91.41 cm), stem diameter (1.65 cm), Internodal length (12.23 cm), number of leaves per plant (71.22), number of branches per plant (18.09), leaf area per plant (577.54 cm2),crop duration (147.93 days), maximum no. of flowers per plant (43.96), maximum no. of flower clusters per plant (14.46), minimum days to 50% flowering (35.00 day), maximum no. of fruits per plant (31.30), no. of marketable fruits per plant (30.02), no. of locules per fruit (4.83), length of fruit (6.85 cm), diameter of fruit (8.00 cm), minimum days to first picking (70.40 day), harvest duration (79.60 day), maximum fruit yield per plant (1458.76 gm), fruit yield per plot (20.42 kg), fruit yield per hectare (567.15 qt.), maximum titratable acidity (0.38 %), TSS (5.22%), ascorbic acid (22.81 mg/100gm), reducing sugar (1.61 %), non reducing sugar (2.70 %), total sugar (4.31 %). The effect of different levels of zinc on growth, yield and quality parameters of tomato indicated that the levels of zinc Zn3 (30 kg ZnSO4/ha) recorded maximum plant height (88.35 cm), stem diameter (1.53 cm), Internodal length (11.21 cm), number of leaves per plant (68.44), number of branches per plant (16.90), leaf area per plant (541.39 cm2),crop duration (144.87 days), maximum no. of flowers per plant (41.00), maximum no. of flower clusters per plant (13.65), minimum days to 50% flowering (35.55 day), maximum no. of fruits per plant (28.75), no. of marketable fruits per plant (27.44), no. of locules per fruit (4.45), length of fruit (6.51 cm), diameter of fruit (7.63 cm), minimum days to first picking (70.80 day), harvest duration (74.76 days), maximum fruit yield per plant (1305.09 gm), fruit yield per plot (18.26 kg), fruit yield per hectare (507.43 qt.), maximum titratable acidity (0.36 %), TSS (4.77%), ascorbic acid (22.04 mg/100gm), reducing sugar (1.48 %), non reducing sugar (2.61 %), total sugar (4.09 %). The interaction effect of different zinc solubilizers and levels of zinc on growth, yield and quality parameters of tomato indicated that the B2Zn3 (Trichoderma viride + 30 kg ZnSO4/ha) recorded maximum plant height (96.15 cm), stem diameter (1.81 cm), Internodal length (13.43 cm), number of leaves per plant (75.83), number of branches per plant (18.87), leaf area per plant (613.30 cm2),crop duration (149.49 days), maximum no. of flowers per plant (46.84), maximum no. of flower clusters per plant (15.69), minimum days to 50% flowering (34.00 days), maximum no. of fruits per plant (36.50), no. of marketable fruits per plant (35.33), no. of locules per fruit (5.10), length of fruit (7.12 cm), diameter of fruit (8.38 cm), minimum days to first picking (69.33 days), harvest duration (82.05 days), maximum fruit yield per plant (1698.33 gm), fruit yield per plot (23.77 kg), fruit yield per hectare (660.27 qt.), maximum titratable acidity (0.43 %), TSS (5.39%), ascorbic acid (23.35 mg/100gm), reducing sugar (1.71 %), non reducing sugar (2.80 %), total sugar (4.51 %).
