Abstract
Cotton species is known as the natural accumulator of
glycine betaine and this quaternary ammonium compound levels
also increased under stress condition in intra-hirsutum (HxH), inter
specific (HxB) hybrids and G. arboreum cultivars. The intrahirsutum
(HxH) hybrids, RHH-216, RHH-520 and Nanded-44
accumulated highest levels of glycine betaine, so also the interspecific
(HxB) hybrid, RHB-302. The arboreum cultivars which can
withstand stress such as JLA-794, PA-183 and Y-1 also accumulated
the.highest levels of glycine betaine under stressed condition.
