Abstract
The present investigation on “Bio-efficacy of Silicon Dioxide nanoparticles against pulse beetle, Callosobruchus chinensis (L.)” was carried out under laboratory conditions at the Department of Entomology, Rajasthan College of Agriculture, MPUAT, Udaipur during 2020-21 During the study it was observed that the pulse beetle showed significant variation with respect to number of eggs laid on different varieties evaluated. The maximum number of eggs were deposited on Kota Urd-3 (34.75 eggs/50 seeds), while it was minimum on Pratap Urd-1 (23.25 eggs) and the average number of eggs laid on all five varieties was 27.15. The total developmental period varied from 23 days in the variety Kota Urd-3 to 28.25 days in PU-31, while on an average the pulse beetle completed its total development in 26.15 days. The per cent adult emergence from varieties Kota Urd-3 and PU-31 was comparatively more than from other varieties and weight loss due to infestation of the test insect was recorded maximum (12.4 %) in Kota Urd-3 and the minimum (6.4 %) in Pratap Urd-1. Among the different concentrations of SiO2 evaluated for bio-efficacy, the maximum mortality (87.5 %) was recorded on the seventh day after treatment with 1.0g SiO2/kg seeds. On first day, mortality in treated samples varied from 22.5 per cent (0.25 g/kg) to 57.5 per cent (1.0 g/kg). On second day it was 30.0 per cent at 0.25 g/kg and 70.0 per cent at 1.0 g/kg. On fourth day it varied from 42.5 per cent (0.25 g/kg) to 75.0 percent and on the seventh day from 55.0 per cent to 87.5 per cent. At concentration of 0.75 g/kg the maximum mortality was 65.0 per cent on fourth day and 80.0 per cent on seventh day and at 1.0 g/kg of seeds highest
