Abstract
The present research work was undertaken with the objectives to explore the agrienterprises pursued by the rural youth, involvement in selected agrienterprises, entrepreneurial behaviour of rural youth and factors associated with it, income generation from selected agrienterprises, SWOT of selected agrienterprises and problems faced by the rural youth in running an agrienterprise. The study was conducted in randomly selected Udaipur, Rajsamand and Bhilwara districts of Rajasthan state. Total sample consisted of 360 rural youth. Further 216 respondents out of 360 were selected for studying the entrepreneurial behaviour, income earned, SWOT analysis and problems faced by the respondents in selected agrienterprises. Interview schedule was used for data collection. Frequency, percentage, mean percent scores, chi square test and F test were used for the analysis of data. The results of the study pointed out that all the respondents were of 18-30 years of age. Majority of the respondents (64.16%) were married, having joint family (66.40 %) and had medium socio economic status. More than one third of the respondents (37.50%) belonged to upper middle class, educated upto middle class (38.61%) and high school (35.55%). Rural youth were mainly engaged in agrienterprises viz. rose processing (41.66%), dairy (35%), vegetable cultivation (31.6%), rose cultivation (33.33%), poultry (21.66%) and goatry (16.66%). Majority of the respondents (67.59%) belonged to medium entrepreneurial behaviour, while 22.22 per cent were in low entrepreneurial behaviour category. Socio personal variables such as age, education, marital status, caste, family structure and land holding were found to be not associated with entrepreneurial behaviour of the respondents. Majority of the respondents acquired and renewed the statutory license required for starting an enterprise independently whereas purchasing of raw material, storage, packaging of the products, caring and maintenance of the animals, fixing of price and allocation of fund were done with the help of family members. The respondents earned annual net profit of Rs. 4.15.840.70/- from dairy, Rs. 1,89,327.60/- from vegetable cultivation, Rs. 66,506.25/- from rose cultivation, Rs. 2,85,370.70/- from rose processing, Rs. 3,56,665.00/- from poultry and Rs.1,13,213.50/- from goatry enterprise. All the agrienterprises had ample opportunities and good strengths. Major problems faced by the respondents in the different enterprises were fluctuating demand of the products in market, lack of knowledge about ICT tools, long distance of market for selling product, poor storage facility, exploitation by middleman, difficult loan procedures and too much competition in the market.
