Abstract
The present work has undertaken to design and development of screw press-dewatering unit foe handling of biogas slurry. Dewatering of biogas slurry is often necessary to separate the solid-liquid fractions, which helps to increase storage and handling characteristics of biogas slurry. The biogas slurry produced from biogas plant is an excellent plant fertilizer and rich in macro and micronutrients. Improved yields from farming practices in agriculture are necessary in order to sustain growth around the world. A key element to achieve this aim is adequate supply of organic fertilizer. Biogas plant produces biogas as well as biogas slurry, which is an excellent plant fertilizer, rich in both macro and micronutrients. The physicochemical properties of biogas slurry vary, strongly depending on the nature and composition of the digested substrate. Biogas slurry processing can be partial, primarily for the purpose of volume reduction, easily storage and handling of slurry. Solid-liquid separation is main step in biogas slurry processing. In partial processing uses relatively simple and cheap technologies, such as screw press dewatering unit. The main aim of this project is to develop screw press dewatering technology for separation of solid from liquid biogas slurry for utilization of biogas slurry. The unit was designed and developed for 50 kg h-1 capacity. The power supply for the developed unit was one horsepower, 1440 rpm, single-phase electric motor. The shaft speed can be controlled with the help of the control system in the range of zero to 80 rpm. The performance was investigated for moisture content in biogas slurry and shaft speed. The best performance of the screw press-dewatering unit in terms of dewatering efficiency, dewatering rate, separation efficiency, reduced separation index and throughput capacity was obtained 81.82%, 49.38 kg h-1, 20.63%, 25.74% and 12.78 kg h-1 respectively. The economic analysis in terms of net present worth, benefit cost ratio, internal rate of return and payback period for the developed screw press-dewatering unit was found to be 654215.5 ₹ year-1, 1.59, 105% and 0.95 year respectively. The overall cost of dewatering unit is ₹120000. This analysis indicates that the developed screw press-dewatering unit could use for small as well as large scale processing of biogas slurry. The adaption of screw press dewatering unit by small-medium farmers and large biogas plant industries would go a long way in helping them to produce their own fertilizer with locally available material like biogas slurry produced from biogas plant The effect of separated solid-liquid and fresh biogas slurry was investigated on okra crop. The vegetative parameters, reproductive parameters and quality parameters was observed in Treatment 3 (Solid fraction application) was gave higher yield as compare to other treatments. The highest water use efficiency was recorded in Treatment 3 i.e. 58.22 kg per ha-mm. the maximum yield of okra crop was obtained in Treatment 3 i.e. 12.6 tons per hectare. The result found that the net income of 155010 ₹/ha and maximum output-input ratio 2.68 in Treatment 3 for okra crop.
