Abstract
The present investigations on “Diversity and abundance of insect pests associated with medicinal plants in Jammu” was conducted at Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Jammu during 2020-21 with the aim to record the diversity, incidence and nature of damage of entomofauna associated with medicinal plants viz., Terminalia chebula Retz., Emblica officinalis Gaertn, Withania somnifera (L.), Rauwolfia serpentina Benth, Tinospora cordifolia (L.), Ocimum sanctum (L.), Jatropha curcas (L.), Moringa oleifera (L.) Aphid and Ceratodon purpureus was recorded causing significant damage on T. cordifolia and J. curcas, respectively. The studies on insect pest incidence on selected medicinal plants revealed that the pest remained active in the field during the plant growth period with peak population depending on the differential effect of abiotic factors on the insect pest. The studies conducted will help in cataloguing, identification, diagnostic symptoms and developing pest management strategy against different insect pest of medicinal plants in Jammu.
