Abstract
A field experiment entitled “Effect of Gibberellic Acid and Sulphur on
Productivity and Quality of Mustard (Brassica juncea L.)” was conducted during
rabi season of 2020- 21 at the research farm of Rajasthan College of Agriculture,
Udaipur. The experiment consisting of four levels (control, 20, 40 and 60 kg ha-1) of
sulphur and four levels (control, 25, 50 and 75 ppm) of gibberellic acid thereby
making 16 treatment combinations, were laid out in Factorial Randomized Block
Design and replicated three times.
Results showed that progressive increase in level of sulphur upto 40 kg ha-1
significantly increased the growth, yield attributing characters and yield such as plant
height, number of branches plant-1 and dry matter accumulation at most of the stages,
number of siliqua plant-1, seeds siliqua-1, test weight and seed, stalk and biological
yield. Nutrient content and nutrient uptake viz., N, P, K and S in seed and stover and
protein and oil content in seed were improved significantly upto 40 kg S ha-1. The
available nutrients such as N, P and K were found highest at 40 kg S ha-1 but available
sulphur was highest at 60 kg S ha-1.
The significant increase in plant height, number of branches plant-1 and dry
matter accumulation, number of siliqua plant-1, seeds siliqua-1, test weight, grain, stalk
and biological yield, nutrient content and nutrient uptake viz., N, P, K and S in grain
and stover and protein and oil content was recorded with 50ppm GA3. Foliar
application of gibberellic acid could not show any significant effect on soil fertility
after harvest of mustard crop.
There was no significant effect due to different levels of sulphur and
gibberellic on harvest index, soil pH, EC, bulk density and organic carbon in soil after
harvest of mustard.
