Abstract
The present study was carried out in two tehsil viz; Banswara and Bagidora in Banswara district of Rajasthan. Six villages from each tehsil were selected on the basis of highest bird population of poultry. A total number of 120 respondents were selected for the present investigation from both tehsil. Out of total 120 respondents of both pratapdhan and desi poultry breed it was found that maximum 94.17 % backyard poultry rearers belonged to scheduled tribe, 80.00 per cent of the rearer of both pratapdhan and desi poultry birds were educated or literate, main occupation of poultry farmers was observed agriculture + animal husbandry of both pratapdhan and desi poultry rearers. The literacy rate of rearers of both poultry bird viz; pratapdhan and desi poultry was found that overall male children were 98.21 % literate, female children i.e. 91.81 % were literate and 80.69 per cent male adult was found literate, Female adult were found 67.12 per cent illiterate, 60.00 % poultry rearer have medium size land holding between1-2 ha Total land holding of all the poultry rearers was observed 138.68 ha in overall study area out of which 128.62 ha land was cultivated. Maximum 59.16 % rearer of both pratapdhan and desi poultry were living in mixed type of house, 82.50 % were found living in nuclear family, 79.17 % had small size family less than 5 members, livestock maintained by the poultry farmers were found that maximum 66.03 per cent of farmers were rearing poultry, 54.16 per cent farmers liked to rear poultry and 78.33 % were liked to rear pratapdhan poultry birds. The overall results regarding feeding and breeding practices shows that majority of the poultry rearers i.e.76.67 per cent feed own produced feeding material to poultry, 72.50 per cent poultry rearers of both pratapdhan and desi poultry birds feed their birds twice a day, 74.17 % were found not using feeder to feed poultry birds, 58.33 per cent were using earthen waterer, 80.83 per cent were using own raised breeding male birds, 79.16 per cent select eggs on the basis of both egg shape and size, 67.50 per cent used kacha house for poultry birds and 72.50 per cent women were involved in the work of poultry, respectively. The data revealed that the average egg production/bird per year was found 151.76 in pratapdhan poultry birds and 56.50 average egg productions was found in desi poultry birds, female bird of pratapdhan poultry breed started laying egg at the age of 5.21 month and desi poultry bird was found started laying egg at the age of 5.73 months, average weight (Kg.) of pratapdhan poultry adult male and female for production was found 2.72 kg and 2.17 kg, while in desi poultry male and female birds it was found 1.97 kg and 1.44 kg, respectively for production. The average cost of selling per egg of pratapdhan was found 13.74 Rs and cost of selling of desi poultry bird was found 18.15 Rs/egg, average number of egg consumed per month was found as 27.55 egg of pratapdhan and 26.58 eggs observed regarding desi poultry birds, egg sold per month was found as 24.48 egg of pratapdhan poultry bird and 26.58 eggs were found of desi poultry bird, average selling price per adult male bird of pratapdhan poultry was recorded 708.95 Rs and 1003.33 Rs selling price was found for desi poultry male bird while 524.37 Rs selling price was recorded for pratapdhan adult female poultry bird and 668.75 Rs was observed for desi poultry female bird, respectively, 15.56 birds of pratapdhan poultry and 12.80 birds of desi poultry were consumed in a year while maximum 16.70 birds of pratapdhan poultry and 10.27 birds of desi poultry were sold in a year, average age of selling of pratapdhan poultry bird was found 5.81 month and 6.85 month was found in desi poultry bird, respectively. The total number of died birds of both pratapdhan and desi poultry were observed 2027 in overall study area and 60.19 per cent overall mortality was observed in birds of below one month age, total 1447 birds were died due to different types of disease and out of these birds Maximum 23.91 per cent were died due to coccidiosis. The data regarding the constraints faced by the poultry rearers in overall study area reveals that Ist rank was given to “Disease” by 93 (77.50 %) of both pratapdhan and desi poultry rearers study area and 77.50 % poultry rearers expressed “predators” as a second major constraints in overall study area.
