Abstract
The present investigation entitled “Response of Shalimar Tomato Hybrid-1 to Organic and Inorganic Sources of Plant Nutrients” was carried out at Experimental Farm of the Division of Olericulture, SKUAST-K, Shalimar during kharif-2009 and kharif-2010. The experiment was laid in Randomized Block Design replicated thrice at a spacing of 60 x 45 cm. Twelve treatment combination i.e. T1 (190 N:150 P2O5:110 K2O kg ha-1), T2 (FYM 38 t ha-1), T3 (SM 32 t ha-1), T4 (PM 7 t ha-1), T5 (VC 14 t ha-1), T6 (Biofertilizers – Azospirillium + phosphobacter 2.5 kg ha-1), T7 (19 t + 95 N: 75 P2O5 : 55 K2O kg ha-1), T8 (16 t + 95 N: 75 P2O5 : 55 K2O kg ha-1), T9 (3.5 t + 95 N: 75 P2O5 : 55 K2O kg ha-1), T10 (7 t + 95 N: 75 P2O5 : 55 K2O kg ha-1), T11 (2.5 kg Soil inoculant + 95 N: 75 P2O5 : 55 K2O kg ha-1), T12 (Control – no organic manure or chemical fertilizers) observations were recorded on growth, yield, fruit quality, chemical characteristics and nutrient availability of studied soil. During both seasons T9 (3.5 t + 95 N: 75 P2O5 : 55 K2O kg ha-1), proved better in improving growth and yield attributing traits than other treatment combinations. Maximum plant height (130.06 cm), number of branches (11.46), number of fruits (62.31), fruit diameter (5.25 cm), fruit weight (59.75 g), fruit yield (535.41 q ha-1) were recorded in treatment T9. The treatment T9 also exhibited highest fruit quality in terms of vitamin C (25.55 mg/100 g), total soluble solids (5.23 oBrix), lycopene content (11.36 mg/100 g), protein content (1.69 %), acidity (0.57%). Treatment T9, recorded significantly higher values for organic carbon content (1.28%, 1.30%), soil pH (6.97, 6.85), electrical conductivity (0.126 dsm-1, 0.129 dsm-1) available nitrogen (280.91 kg ha-1, 284.30 kg ha-1), available phosphorus (46.01 kg ha-1, 47.60 kg ha-1) available potassium (219.81 kg ha-1, 222.27 kg ha-1), during both seasons after the harvest of crop. Economic studies indicated that highest gross returns of Rs. 388050.00, was obtained in treatment T4 (PM 7 t ha-1) with maximum returns of 5.28 Re-1 invested.
