Abstract
The present investigation entitled, “Effect of different levels of irrigation and fertilizers through drip irrigation coupled with different type of mulches on growth, yield and quality of groundnut in Konkan region” was carried out during rabi 2018-19 and 201920 at Instructional Farm Department of Agronomy, College of Agriculture, Dapoli, Dr. Balasaheb Sawant Konkan Krishi Vidyapeeth, Dapoli, Maharashtra (India). In the Konkan region, receives about 3000 to 3500 mm precipitation annually during monsoon. However, immediately after the monsoon i.e. may be after February there is scarcity of water during rabi season to irrigate the fields. Mono cropping i.e. paddy cultivation is the common practices in Konkan region. The soil is lateritic and well drain. The area under irrigation in Konkan is not crossing 7.6 per cent of the total cultivable area and very merger area is under micro irrigation. There is vast scope to introduce cash crops like groundnut along with other crops in rabi season. There is urgent need to utilize the scare water resources like line farm ponds, wells and bore wells etc. judiciously and precisely by using the micro irrigation i.e. drip irrigation through which fertigation can be done. Considering the present scenario, conditions and need of the present investigation was carried out to give the alternative and additional source of income to youths who are migrating to metropolitan cities for searching of jobs. Therefor, the, “Studies on irrigation and fertilizer levels through drip along with different type of mulches on groundnut”, was carried out. to introduce cash crops like groundnut along with other crops in rabi season. The strip split plot experimental design for this investigation was adopted which comprises three irrigation levels I1 (60% ETc), I2 (80% ETc) and I3 (100% ETc) It also consist of three fertigation levels i.e F1 (80% RDF through WSF), F2 (100% RDF through WSF) and F3 (120% RDF through WSF) and in sub sub plot with three different type of mulches M1 (no mulch), M2 (Silver polythene mulch) and M3 (Transparent mulch). The treatment combination was replicated three times to get the unbiased and correct data. In all, total there were 27 treatment combinations in this experimentation. In this study, the irrigation level I3 (100% ETc) recorded maximum yield 45.00 q ha-1 and significantly superior than irrigation level I2 (80% ETc) and I1 (60% ETc). The higher maximum yield obtained in I3 is may be due to congenial environment created in the root zone as the water through drip irrigation reaches to directly root zone. Accordingly, F3 (120% RDF) yielded significantly maximum i.e. 42.98 q ha-1 which was at par with F2 (100% RDF) while the lower yield was recorded in F1 (80% RDF) 35.70 q ha-1. Silver polythene mulch was recorded higher dry pod yield 44.45 q ha-1 followed by transparent mulch 41.00 q ha-1 and no mulch recorded 36.47 q ha-1 in two years pooled mean. The maximum water use efficiency was recorded with irrigation level I1 (60% ETc) 13.45 kg ha-1 mm-1. In respect of quality parameters, higher oil content (50.62 %) and protein content (25.53 %) was observed in I3 (100% ETc) like wise in F3 (120% RDF) it was (50.37%) oil content and (25.66%) protein content and in silver mulch (50.59 %) oil content and higher protein content (24.66%) was recorded in transparent mulch. The growth and yield contributing parameters viz., number of mature pods plant-1, weight of mature pods (g) plant-1 and maximum seed index were observed to be in treatment combination ofI3F3M2 due tofull amount ofrequired water, 120 (%) RDF (WSF) through drip fertigation and silver polythene mulch which helps to increase photosynthesis due to reflected radiation from silver mulch within the canopy of leaves as well as it may helps to repels the certain insect and pest. The cost analysis was worked out. The maximum B:C ratio (1.70) was obtained in I3F3M2 however it was at par with I3F2M2 and significantly superior than other treatment combinations. It is concluded that 100% ETc with 120% RDF and along with silver mulch gave higher yield and quality of groundnut pod.
