Abstract
The present study entitled “ Studies on influence of growth regulators and chemicals on seed and vegetative propagation of passion fruit was carried out at the fruit orchard, Deptt. of fruit science, College of Horticulture and Forestry, CAU, Pasighat, Arunachal Pradesh. The result obtained with regards to the study of viability of passion fruit at different sowing dates, seed sown 20 days after extraction resulted maximum germination percentage, whereas seeds sown after 20 days of extraction resulted in maximum growth of other germination characters at 30 DAS and 60 DAS. With regards to different growing conditions maximum germination percentage was obtained in seeds sown in shade net condition as compared to seeds sown in laboratory. Seeds sown after 20 days of extraction in shade net resulted in maximum germination and was considered the best compared to other treatments. Out of the eight different treatments respectively, Control, GA3 500 ppm, GA3 250 ppm, Thiourea 1%, KNO3 1%, H2SO4 98%, water soaking for 24 hrs, 2% bleaching powder and scarification using sand paper highest germination percentage was obtained in GA3 250 ppm treated seeds followed by seeds treated with GA3 500 ppm. The lowest germination percentage was recorded in untreated seeds or control. Maximum vegetative parameters like number of leaves, height of seedling was recorded in seeds treated with GA3 500 ppm at different dates of sowing 30, 60 and 90 DAS. Increased root and shoot growth was recorded in GA3 500ppm treated seeds which drastically increased biomass of the plants. With regards to the rooting of cuttings maximum rooting and sprouting percentage along with maximum number of roots and leaves was obtained in cuttings treated with NAA 200 ppm.
