Abstract
The present investigation was carried out at Vegetable Experimental Farm, Division of Olericulture, SKUAST-K, Shalimar during Rabi 2004 to find out the optimum dose and best combination of organic manures and inorganic fertilizers for maximising yield and improving quality of cauliflower cv. Snowball-16. The experiment was laid out in randomised block design and treatments were replicated thrice. The findings reveal that integrated use of organic manures and inorganic fertilizers at different levels of combinations proved better in improving growth and yield attributing traits than using organic manures and inorganic fertilizers alone. The plants treated with 50% recommended NPK in combination with 50% poultry manure recorded highest curd yield of 325.10 q ha-1 followed by 310.40 q ha-1 when 50% recommended NPK was applied in combination with 50% of organic manures. These treatments also exhibited higher values of yield attributing characters and quality attributes, viz. vitamin C content, protein content and drymatter content of curd than other treatments. All the treatments showed enhanced uptake of nutrients over control but the treatments supplied with both organic manures and inorganic fertilizers recorded higher uptake of nutrients than control and other treatments. While working out economics of each treatment, the highest net profit of Rs. 178096 and benefit cost ratio of 3.59 was obtained with treatment combination of 50% recommended NPK and 50% poultry manure. Thus from the present investigation it is concluded that treatment combination of 50% recommended NPK and 50% poultry manures proved better than other treatments for enhancing yield and economic returns in cauliflower cv. Snowball-16.
