Abstract
The present investigation entitled “ Weed management studies
in rabi onion (Allium cepa L.) cv. N-2-4-1.” was carried out at onion
storage scheme, MPKV, Rahuri during rabi 2012. The experiment
was laid out in randomized block design with three replications.
Onion was grown on flat beds. The different herbicides viz.,
Oxyfluorfen 23.5 % EC, Pendamethalin 30% EC, Quizolfob ethyl 5 %
EC and Fenoxaprop-p-ethyl 10 % EC were used to control weeds.
The farm yard manure @ 20 t ha-1 was applied before
preparing the layout and flat beds. Pre-emergence herbicides were
sprayed 3 to 4 days after transplanting of onion seedlings and postemergence
herbicides were sprayed 25 DAT. Fertilizers 50 kg N, 50 kg P2O5 and 50 K2O kg ha-1 was applied as a basal dose and 50 kg N
was applied as top dress dose one month after transplanting to all
the treatments.
The experiment revealed that the growth attributes viz.,
plant height (26.22, 58.89 and 69.63 cm at 30, 60 and 90 DAT
respectively) and number of leaves per plant (6.66, 12.91 and 13.67
at 30, 60 and 90 DAT respectively) were significantly higher in the
treatment T11- hand weeding at 15, 30 and 45 DAT. It was followed
by chemical weed control treatment T7- Oxyfluorfen 23.5 % EC @
0.088 kg a.i/ha + Quizolfop ethyl 5 % EC @ 0.025 kg a.i/ha POE +
hand weeding 45 DAT recorded plant height (26.08 cm, 58.36 cm
and 69.61 cm at 30, 60 and 90 DAT, respectively) and number of
leaves (6.22, 12.17 and 12.94 at 30, 60 and 90 DAT, respectively).
