Abstract
The objectives of the present investigation were to find out the knowledge of the rural women about selected government schemes, benefits of the selected government schemes gained by rural women and problems faced by the rural women in gaining benefits from the selected schemes. The study was conducted in four villages of randomly selected block i.e. Kalsi of Dehradun district of Uttarakhand. A sample of 100 rural women was selected randomly for the present study and interview method was used for data collection. Frequency, percentage, mean per cent scores and mean weighted scores were used for analysis of the data. Results of the study revealed that majority of the respondents (66%) belonged to the age group of 18 -30 years. The respondents educated up to primary school and above were 41 per cent and respondents belonging to upper middle caste were 81 per cent. Majority of the respondents (77%) had farming as their main occupation. More than half of the respondents (57 %) had mixed house whereas, pucca house was possessed by one fourth of the respondents (25%). Majority of the respondents (79%) belonged to low socio- economic status and 21 per cent respondents belonged to medium socio-economic status Regarding the knowledge of the respondents with regard to selected government schemes, majority of the respondents possessed poor knowledge about the government schemes with overall mean per cent score of 22.42. Distribution of the respondents into various knowledge categories reveals that majority of the respondents (63%) belonged to poor knowledge category followed by 31 per cent under average knowledge and only 6 per cent respondents belonged to good category of knowledge. Regarding the overall benefits gained by the respondents with regard to selected government schemes findings revealed that only 10.0 per cent of the respondents gained overall benefit from all the selected schemes to high extent, while 20 per cent of the respondents gained medium amount of benefit and 69 per cent of the respondents not gained any benefit from the selected schemes with the overall MPS of 16.05. The major problems faced by the respondents in availing benefits were illiteracy, problem in seeking benefit in the name of women, distance of banks or concerned institutions from village, unavailability of e-mitre in the village, lack of publicity of scheme and lots of formalities of registration under schemese
